About the Melbourne Male Voice Choir
The Melbourne Male Voice Choir ("MMVC") re-formed on 14th January 1977 - the Queen's Silver Jubilee year. In the 41 years since then MMVC has earned its reputation as one of the East Midlands' premier choirs.
We are an enthusiastic group of choristers and we perform both traditional male voice items together with some modern and challenging pieces, lead by our Musical Director Mr David Sewell, accompanied on the piano by Ms Charlotte Harris (assistant accompanist Mr Philip Heath). Our current Repertoire can be seen here.
The Choir varies in size between 20 to 50 members and currently stands more than 30, but there can never be too many and we are always looking for new recruits.
The audition process is very strict and lengthy and very few make it. Not true! The Musical Director will shut you both into the audition room (i.e. the kitchen) and ask you to sing a few lines and notes to gauge your natural range.
Are you a Bass or a Baritone, a Second Tenor or a Top Tenor? There's only one way to find out. And there's tea, coffee and biscuits at half time. A warm welcome awaits you.
The Choir practices each Friday between 7:30pm and 9:30pm at the Wesley Hall on Potter Street in Melbourne (see map, below).
If you would like to make a donation to our funds please contact our Treasurer, John Smallwood, via the Contacts page. Potential business donors might like to note that the MMVC is a Registered Charity.
